South Wales To Protest New Fracking Operation This Weekend

This Saturday, anti-fracking protesters will take to the streets of Swansea to voice their opposition to the latest news of fracking operations in South Wales.

Anti-fracking pressure group Safe Energy Wales has organised the protest to raise awareness of the issue of fracking in Wales. Safe Energy Wales’ Keith Ross told This is South Wales: “The next step is to keep raising awareness through public meetings in the areas that may be affected. We want to inform the public and put pressure on politicians in order to change their minds about using fracking.”

Safe Energy Wales is in the process of gathering signatures for a petition to ask the government to step in and impose an immediate halt on all fracking operations in Wales until the risks associated with the controversial extraction process are understood.

Saturday 19 October marks the first International Anti Fracking day of protest, and campaigners will be making their presence felt at controversial fracking sites around the world.

What do you think? Are the protesters voicing legitimate concerns, or are they standing in the way of progress? Let us know in the comments section!
